Before Commencement
- Am I eligible to graduate?
To be eligible to graduate, you need to:
- Submit an online Application for Graduation.
- Run the CAPP degree evaluation.
- Make sure you have met all the course requirements (your CAPP should not have NO in red)
- Have a minimum Cumulative GPA and Major GPA of 2.0
- Have completed the Residency Requirements needed for your program (this can be checked on bottom of your CAPP)
- Do I need to fill a form for the graduation ceremony?
No. When you pick up your cap and gown, it means that you will participate in the rehearsals and then the Commencement Ceremonies.
- Is it obligatory to fill out the Graduation Surveys?
Yes, it is obligatory; otherwise, you will not be permitted to pick up your cap & gown or request the invitation tickets. Starting May 15, the following Graduation Surveys will be sent to your LAU email and become available on your Student Portal homepage.- Exit Survey (mandatory for everyone)
- Learning Outcomes Survey (requirement varies by program)
You MUST access both surveys and click “Submit” to finalize the requirement.

N.B. Completion deadline is June 4 for the Byblos campus graduating students.
- When and where do I get my cap & gown?
You can collect your cap & gown from Frem Civic Center (2nd floor, lobby) starting May 21 until June 5, from 9 am until 12 pm (excluding weekends and holidays).
- Can someone else pick up my cap & gown?
Yes. If you are abroad and cannot collect them yourself, a member of your family must present your LAU ID or a copy of it in order to pick-up the cap & gown. No friends are allowed to do so.
- How many tickets will I receive? How do I get them?
Every graduate is eligible to receive three tickets. You need to request the tickets online.
- Is the old LAU ID valid for the commencement?
Yes; however, if you would like to request an alumni ID, you may do so as follows:
Pass by the ID Room in Zakhem Hall, Level 4, room 305 between May 21 and June 8 (excluding weekends and holidays), from 9 am to 12 pm. For more info, contact the Alumni Relations Office.
Alumni ID is offered complementary for current year graduates only.
- How do I know if I am graduating with honors, distinction, or high distinction?
- Honors: Cumulative GPA in the range of 3.20 - 3.49
- Distinction: Cumulative GPA in the range of 3.50 - 3.79
- High Distinction: Cumulative GPA in the range of 3.80 - 4.00
- What if I am graduating with more than one major?
You will get two separate diplomas; however, you need to decide for which diploma you would like to march. Email your reply to the Registrar’s office at least one week before the Commencement Ceremony to registrar.byblos@lau.edu.lb
- How do I request special accommodations for persons with physical disabilities?
The LAU HEALTH Clinics provide accommodations for students and guests with with physical disabilities on the day of the commencement ceremony. To provide you with a better service, you can submit your request by email lauhealthclinic.byblos@lau.edu.lb or by phone: +961 1 786456 ext. 2040 at least two weeks prior to the ceremony. LAU does not provide wheelchairs to guests or students. If needed, make sure to secure a wheelchair from an outside source.
Commencement Ceremony
- Where may I keep my personal belongings during the ceremony?
There are no assigned lockers to store your belongings. It is better to keep your valuable possessions at home.
- When can parents/guests enter the campus?
Your parents/guests can enter LAU campus starting 6:00 pm.
- On what basis is the seating arrangement handled?
Seating arrangements will be on a first come first serve basis, starting 6:00 pm.
- How long does the Ceremony last?
The Commencement Ceremony starts at 8:00 pm and it is expected to last three hours.
- Can parents/guests leave the Ceremony before it ends?
Parents/guests are advised to remain seated until the end of the Ceremony.
After Commencement
- Where can I get my photos and video?
You can get the photos and video from the authorized photographer and videographer covering the ceremonies:
Name and address will be announced at a later stage.
- Will both, the major and minor, appear on the diploma?
Only the major appears on the diploma, whereas the major and the minor appear on the transcript.
- How do I receive my diploma(s)?
Follow the process on this page to obtain your diploma or ask for transcript(s).
